He has faxed his resignation to the Presidency and Governor House.
He abruptly departed for Dubai on late Friday night and intends to stay there for the next few days after which he will travel to London.
According to sources, Dr Ebad felt that he was not fulfilling his role as Governor and was concerned that he was not being informed about the situation in the province or the measures being taken against it.
This is the third time that Dr Ebad has decided to resign from his post. He announced that he was leaving the government in February 2013 and before that on June 27, 2011.
He assumed office on December 2, 2002 was the youngest and longest serving Governor of Sindh since Pakistan's inception.
The MQM has been decrying the ongoing operations and urged human rights organisations to take notice of ‘the illegal arrests’ of its workers.
Rangers have conducted several raids in the city and have arrested suspected criminals, including members of MQM, during their raids.
According to Rangers' officials, 30 suspects have been detained, including extortionists and kidnappers, a huge cache of arms and ammunition have also been recovered.
A police spokesperson claimed that 152 suspects were rounded up in 129 raids in different areas of the city. “The police also recovered 49 firearms and five bombs,” he had added.

Another toopi drama started...
Grow up for God's sake grow up. Its not about Urdu speaking. It is about a fascist party which has killed more Urdu speaking and destroyed two generations and countless homes. Urdu, Punjabi, Sindi, Balochi, or Pakhtun, who gives a damn. We are all Pakistanis. Those who play regional of linguistic card have nothing better to sell. See through them, there is enough history to analyze.
This is for ET moderator I had written comment regarding Mr Ishrat Abad . His family kept on getting welfare payment checks in London while he was Governor of Sind, Finally British Govt made this information public and he had to return that money. If I remember correctly, the amount was around 18 or 20 thousand pounds. That shows the character of him and his family. I wonder why my comment was not posted. Is ET afraid of MQM?
@Navaid: You have written two comments so far. Before I give my piece of advice , I would like to know your true identity and location, so I could understand you better.
In the meantime , any more prediction by fortune teller? Thanks
@Ammar: ECL? Did you read the news item? He is in Dubai.
There is a news in media that he hasn't resigned and PML leadership is in close contact with MQM's
No journalist wants to admit this, but Mohajir areas in urban Sindh are preparing to secede from Pakistan, and form a Mohajir Republic. The US and NATO have already agreed to create a Mohajir Republic, and the MQM will spearhead this campaign. Goodbye Pakistan, hello Mohajir Republic.
Oh you people of Karachi please vote some bunday dey puter next time.it's time for MQM to abandon violent political tendencies and introduce non-violence approach otherwise it will go down in drains forever.
I received a comment written by Navaid thru ET. When I go to check under this news item , his comment is still not showing up .even though comment was received by me five to six hrs ago. Is there problem with you soft ware ?
@sohail khan: With God as my witness, I agree with every word you say. Mehran, however, was replying to so other's very harsh comments enveloping the entire Sindhi-speaking people (see above). To malign an entire ethnic group is evil. Period. Please go through both the comments, and decide where madness prevails. Cheers.
Yes, it is a drama, he will be taking back his resignation!
Old tactics of MQM. Yawn!
........and if the rumor of the man nominated in his place is correct, then most will wish he'd come back.
The process for a Mohajir Republic has begun. Pakistan will be divided.
Latest is that, as every one knew he is taking back his resignation.
@Ghost: "@LOK:Karachi is a part of Sindh, not separate from it." . Heard a rumour the other day about FATA being a part of Pakistan. Not too sure though.
resignation accepted... thank you very much siiiiiiir
This time accept the resignation and make him history. I am sure their are lot of fine people in Sind.
@Ammar: He already fled according to the news.
@Amir: "Who is the killer of Hakeem Mohammad Saeed?" . Not Imran. He only threatened Maulana Edhi.
@sultan khan: "Departure of Ishrat is not a good omen. He was a man of dignity and honour , a cool and calm statesman....." . Then you suggest, "Now is the time to appoint Qadir magsi, Ayaz Palijo, Mumtaz bhutto or shahi Syed as governor...." . Appointing any of such gentlemen, would be a good or bad omen?
Who is the killer of Hakeem Mohammad Saeed?
Thanks God,Good news.... but he will take back his resignation
it is a bad news for Sindh`s politics Sindhi and Mohajir both are important part of sindh and it can not deny that both have equal importance for the prosperity of sindh , consensus is the best policy for development as zardari shahb did for the development of democracy in Pakistan so PPP should follow it again for permanent prosperity .
@Ammar: he fled as soon as he pressed the sent button on the fax machine.
Great news for Sindh specially....
Great news for Sindh specially.....
@LOK:
Karachi is a part of Sindh, not separate from it.
@bilal: shame on all people who supported him
Shame on all those who are supporting father of an illegitimate girl!!!!!!
Departure of Ishrat is not a good omen. He was a man of dignity and honour , a cool and calm statesman. He was a bridge in between different communities of Sindh. Even the Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz who is very economical in praising others praised him for his balanced character. He had a distinct personality apart from Altaf. Though his designation was only ceremonial yet Mohajirs thought that at least they had some say in the affairs of Sindh. Now that thread has been completely broken(Don't mention Mamnoon; he is a non-entity as compared to Ishrat). Only a day ago many including Sh.Rohail Asghar of PML(N) were telling MQM to approach "their" governor for the redressal of operation related grievances so he resigned as he could do nothing. Now is the time to appoint Qadir magsi, Ayaz Palijo, Mumtaz bhutto or shahi Syed as governor of sindh.
I am a bit confused, Is there not any fax machine in governer house that he always goes dubai to fax his sesignation..
This is a good and timely decision to protest against operation targeted against MQM. The party has proved again its principles and unity are above individuals.
DR Ishrat was one of the few sensible chaps in MQM; Cool and Calm. His resignation is probably one last throw of the dice from MQM to sabotage the on going operation against bhatta-bori mafia but unlikely to work
@Mehran: if you could also tell the same to Sindhi waderas, who suck blood of common people, to leave Sindh, I think this would be even better for Sindh.
@Saleem: It appears that Saleem is sitting on the fence.
Now that the government has taken a long overdue bold step no doubt some innocents will also be held. Still those who want peace should let the operation take its course and hopefully the innocents will come to no real harm.
@ Mehran, Karachi is a few miles away from Sindh :)
It is time the people of Pakistan and Sind recognised urdus peaking people as Pakistanis with the same right as any other Pakistanis. Especially their right to demand a province and separate Karachi from Sind. We are disgusted at being treated as second class citizens in Pakistan.
another drama on part of mqm.i hope this time he would not take back his resignation.
Good riddance! People of Karachi can now breathe a sigh of relief. Thank God!
May form his own MQM (Ishrat Ul Ebad Group) ...
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/aug/26/naoto-kan-resigns-japan-pm. the Japanese prime minister resigned on a criticism over his natural disaster handling and during Mr. Ishrat ul ibad era thousands of people died and no one resigned . shame on all people who supported him
@ Mehran : Sindh is the homeland of every person residing permanently here for the last 40-50 years. So why leave sindh and go elsewhere. No space of such racist mind set in the 21st century. Rural sindhi waderas want to grab all the sources of sindh and urban population to bear all the burden of taxes to feed these waderas. Better each sindhi or urdu speaking change their mentality to give justice and equal right to every citizen of sindh otherwise their will be FASAD FIL URD.
Finally every body has to leave. He has left a lesson of every one in power now a days, that their days will over too. Any way it is unfortunate that he came and finally departed while the basic demands of his party and the people behind are still unsolved.
@ Dr. Khan : Dr. Ishratul Ebad gave honour to the chair of Government of Sindh. A sobre, calm and a person of dignity. One of the best faces in MQM. But virtually he was a ceremonial Governor without any power in the administration and decisions of Government of Sindh, so unfair to question him about law and order situation in Karachi. By this resignation now the population of urban sindh is without any representation in the Sindh Government. All powers in the hands of waderas / feudals of Sindh. Interests of urban sindh population are in very danger - no one there to protect their interests. Surprised no one is talking about this aspect.
@Dr khan: To give you one example he awarded honorary degree to Mr.Rehman Malik.Did Rehman Malik deserved this degree.
Here I agree with you.
So the cases against him will be opened now ?
@Saleem Latif: Sindh is homeland to Sindhis for thousands of years. If some one has problem with Sindh and Sindhis, they can happily relocate to better place in other areas of Pakistan and I wish them good luck and hope that they get all amenities of their which they could not get in Sindh. Thank you. Bye
It looks that the psyche of Hindus against Muslims of India and the psyche of some communities against Urdu speaking community in Pakistan is the same.
This time this is not going to work. MQM will have to do something bigger, how about giving resignations from provincial and national assemblies, I guess this might work !
He really left ?or we are going to hear soon that in national interest of country, he is back as always is the case with MQM's twisting political rounds. Mr I.Ibad did nothing useful for province and people. he hardly visited rural areas, He was complete failure, he did not play any significant role for Sindh, except protecting his party interests on all costs.
Power should rest with the people of Karachi. Non Sindhi pay taxes and Sind. speaking get all govt jobs perks power and rishwat. As long as this doesnt stop Karachi will remain this disenfranchised city
@True Karachiwala: No he did very little in the education sector. To give you one example he awarded honorary degree to Mr.Rehman Malik.Did Rehman Malik deserved this degree. The funding of public sector was markedly reduced as chancellor of the university he could not do much to restore university funds.
I think he is the best governor Sindh had. He did great services specially in education sector. He is capable of running a governemnt successfully. I wish he were CM of Sind.
Can't he resign from Pakistani soil??
This is going to be a Bad Omen for Karachi & Karachiites, situation is getting worse after his Resignation,He is working like a bridge between the Rivals , battle is being move towards the streets of Karachi.
During his tenure we saw worst violence in the city.He could not stop his own party from strikes and violent attitudes. We need a good governor like. Gen Moines Haider for this province.
It's good he has resigned. People, situations, and events must change with time. We wish him the best for the future. Pakistanis please pray for a change in the country for the better. Inshallah. Ameen. Salams
thousands of people died, killed burnt during your term accept your failure publically
I think MQM must keep cool . All the odds against them on national and international level . I think results of May 11 shows that their utilities has been finish for time being . They must wait for their time and do not do any thing silly ( Like they demand operation in Karachi .)
Hope that President Mamnoon Hussain will accept resignation of Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Governor of Sindh. Federal government should not be pressurized by the MQM representative, who has been the longest serving governor of a province of Pakistan.
Resignation number 16.
its very bad desision
its so disopointed desision
Good for Pakistan. Good for Karachi
Let us hope his resignation is real this time not a hoax or barging chip
Atlast some good news from Sindh...
Put his name in ECL so that he does not flee from the country...
The gentleman holds the record of being the longest serving governor of a province. At the same time, he also holds the record of the number of resignations submitted, all proved to be for bargaining. I hope this time would be the last one.
Very soon he will be taking back his resignation.
Real admirer of this guy; his calmness, persona... but seems his resignation is one more card, played from MQM to stop/ sabotage peace revival movement in Khi.
Thank you!!
Very sad!
So all those claims to clean Karachi from crime were mere slogans. As soon as heat got turned up MQM started showing its muscle and now asked its governor, Ishratul Ebad, who was the longest running governor in history of Pakistan, to resign. Unless people of Karachi realize what is going on and stop voting for parties who makes hollow claims nothing will change in their lives.
