Medical emergency: Two Congo, four dengue cases test positive

A total of 173 suspected cases of dengue have been reported since January.

The suspected patients of crimean-congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Friday were confirmed for the deadly disease by the National Institute of Health (NIH).


Yousuf Khan, 60, and two of his sons, were brought to the medical unit of the hospital from Havelian. One of his sons, Shiraz Khan, died on Thursday.

The doctors have termed the condition of Khan and his second son critical.

Meanwhile, four new cases have been confirmed positive for dengue virus at Rawalpindi’s three hospitals in the last 24 hours, pushing the toll to 18.

The focal person for Infectious Diseases at Rawalpindi Medical College and allied hospitals Dr Javed Hayat, said of the four new cases, two each have been reported in Holy Family Hospital and Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

According to him a total of 173 suspected cases of dengue had been reported since January of which 18 have tested positive while 12 cases are awaiting results.
