Kidnapping for ransom: Five awarded life sentence

ATC Judge Ishtiaq Ahmad also ordered that the properties of the convicts be confiscated.

FAISALABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday awarded life imprisonment on two counts to five people including a woman for kidnapping a man for ransom. According to prosecution, on November 3, 2012, Muhammad Qasim, a resident of Chak 66-JB, and his accomplices Muhammad Asif, a resident of Chichawatni, Sharafat Waqas from Bahawalpur, Muhammad Saeed Khan from Peshawar and Nimra Chaudhary from Chak 38-RB, had abducted Naeem Ahmad Khan, the Punjab College, Jhang, director, on his way to Jhang from Lahore. The kidnappers had demanded Rs30 million ransom money for Khan’s release but on November 30 agreed to set him free for Rs10 million. ATC Judge Ishtiaq Ahmad also ordered that the properties of the convicts be confiscated.
