The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Clifton police SHO to recover and produce a man, who has been detained “unlawfully” by the law enforcers since July this year.
At the hearing on Friday, the bench - headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar - also issued notices to the federal and provincial interior secretaries and the heads of the police and intelligence agencies to file their comments on the detainee’s whereabouts by October 3.
Ismail Khan told the judge that around 20 personnel of the law enforcement agencies barged into his house in Clifton on the night of July 25. “They picked up my brother, Mukhtiar, and drove him away in an entourage of private and official vehicles,” he said. “Mukhtiar’s whereabouts are unknown ever since.”
While police officials were approached, none of them took notice of the illegal detention, which is a violation of personal liberties guarenteed in the constitution, the petitioner claimed. He pleaded the court order the heads of the police and intelligence agencies to recover and produce Mukhtiar.
The bench issued notices to Sindh IGP, the DGs of the ISI, MI, Rangers, FC, federal and provincial home secretaries and Clifton SP for October 3. Meanwhile, Clifton SHO was ordered to recover and produce the detainee in court at the next date of hearing.
