Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Thursday said that the price stability of essential items in the country is a priority of the government. “The provinces should play a proactive role in maintaining price stability to provide relief to the general public”, Dar added addressing the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC).
He urged the strengthening of the committee and improved implementation of its decision making so that adequate monitoring on prices of essential items could be assured.
He said that this is an area where the federal and provincial governments should work jointly and effectively to provide relief to the public and control uncertain rise in prices.
Dar also emphasised that the forum of NPMC monitors supply and demand position, reviews prices and compares with the regional countries.
