KARACHI:

An under-trial prisoner escaped from Civil hospital on Thursday after which prisons minister Manzoor Wasan issued notices to the relevant officials.

Central Prison superintendent Kazi Nazeer Ahmed said that the admitted prisoner, Wazir Masih, was a heroin addict and was facing withdrawal symptoms.”His condition had deteriorated, which is why we took him to the hospital.” In the emergency ward, where he was admitted, the prisoner somehow got free of the handcuffs and escaped from the room. Ahmed said that the two guards who were posted on duty have been suspended due to negligence and an inquiry would be initiated against them.
