Speaking during a press conference, Sabzwari said the MQM had not said anything against the Rangers’ operation before this despite the arrests of over 100 workers in the last six days.
He claimed that instead of going after criminals, the Rangers were targeting innocent members of MQM.
Hashmi was arrested by the Hyderi police in a raid on his house in North Nazimabad late Tuesday night. A few hours before his arrest, two policemen, Iqbal Arif and Mohammad Ali, were gunned down within the Hyderi police remits.
An FIR, No. 181/13, was registered under Sections 302 and 397/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. However, it is said that the police have no evidence of Hashmi’s involvement in the murders.
Hashmi was serving as the incharge of the MQM’s North Nazimabad unit. Before that, he had been elected as a Sindh Assembly member in the by-polls held following the death of MQM leader Dr Mohammad Ali Shah.
Earlier, the offices of MQM leaders Rehan Hashmi and Jamal Ahmed were raided and LCD TVs, computers and fax machines were seized.
Sabzwari said that MQM had supported the targeted operation as they believed that it would entail a political action against criminals, but this is not the case.
'Catch real criminals'
“The security forces should rough up real criminals the way they are treating MQM members and offices,” Dr Sagheer Ahmed said while addressing a press conference today.
He questioned where the security forces were when the citizens of Karachi were being killed.
The MQM leader further reiterated that his party supports armed action against criminal elements.

No matter what Altaf or MQM think, Karachi is not their personal property and its people are not their prisoners. Karachi is a part of Pakistan, and belongs to all Pakistanis of all ethnic groups and religions. Pashtuns, Baloch, Sindhis, and Punjabis are as much a part of Karachi as anyone else.
@Aysha M
Totally agree with you on local policing, local governments and the great process they bring from the good of people. No issue at all but here is a question, "What exactly did MQM do in its last 13 years of Power" or say he last 5 years in power as trusted ally of PPP. How come no LG's were formed etc?
I hope for sake of Karachi and Lahore and for Pakistan, we get to have a real Local Government system but I think MQM leadership has no interest in it but use this to continue on the path to destroy Karachi.
Regards
@Shamim: Interior Ministry has not been given to MQM for past 6 years so they really have no power to control the city.
They(MQM) don't even have Nazim or Metropolitan govt now, basically Provincial govt which belongs to PPP they hold all these powers and don't really want to share with True representatives of Karachi people.
Ali Baloch@ we are going nowhere..
MQM being targeted by Rangers: Faisal Sabzwari
People of Pakistan not forget the past when Karachi is handover to your party and you dispatch death bodies from Karachi to other province and also found the bodies of people who oppose your party in slack bags. While You claim 85% of mandate but not take responsibility of 85% peace in city. Now its cleared that every urdu speaking not with you.
Please release Karachi from own fist and accept own position which changed and now you are not in position to blackmailing the Govt.
The solution should be reached and it would take some time as filtration process would take and land mafia , bhatta khor extortionists ,drug lords, gang lords all have to be eliminated it would involve some killings but afterall it would help the future and save thousands of life in the future
All these comments make my belief stronger that Urban Sindhis will have to keep themselves united otherwise there will be no one in Pakistan to help us in case of any genocide.
@Saleem: Can you remember aftermath of BB murder?
@Peshawer101: let it come again at least there will be peace again in Karachi for the next 15 or 20 year.
Please do not utter such sweeping renarks. That operation has been admitted as based on fabricated allegations by the very persons who conceived and executed it. This operation has done exactly what drones are doing to your area. Please be balance !
@Aysha M: You live in Karachi that's true but Karachi is a part of Sindh and will remain a part of Sindh you have a problem with Sindhi law makers my advise is to go back to where ever you came from.
@Aysha M: Please leave MQM alone. Let them do what they think is right. Let them burn down Karachi.
Can you feel ashamed of yourself being an ID thief ?
@Xnain: @Saleem: @H Chaudhry: KARACHI needs to GET UP and demand for a powerful and independent city government like all the mega cities in the world. Whichever party gets to form the city government should have the complete authority over policing, transport and utilities and all problems will be solved. We in Karachi cannot be governed by elected representatives who are from outside of Karachi, so GET UP KARACHI which includes everybody who feels he or she is Karachi and raise voice for a powerful city government
@Malik: BTW MQM is also Muslim party.
if this persecution against Urdu speaking continues, soon Karachi Liberation Army seem to be formed.
@Karachiite..The rangers are also conducting raids on Uzair Baloch’s residence.......Uzair is no more in karachi,he was allowed to leave pakistan ...where as court had isued non bailable warrant...If the captain(CM) chosen by PM is not ready to play an unbiased game without any like or dislike ,the whole game becomes non-starter...
@Aysha M
Yes Karachi needs to GET UP! Get up to the tyranny of MQM.
@Omer: thanks for recalling what happened on the day BB died, blame MQM well isnt that most easy in Pakistan,
MQM will remain MQM. Its better that Nawaz Sharif and PPP fix this problem now and forever. common people will support the law enforcement agencies.
@Aysha M:
and do what? burn it? Is that what you are after? At least that is what your fellow MQM supporters are doing. Shouldn't all those who are burning/looting the city be tried and given exemplary punishments.
@Peshawer101: i guess you heard this slogan: "tum jitnay Bhutto maro ge; har ghar se Bhutto niklay ga..." and same is the situation of Karachi... accept it or not.... Karachi is voting and will vote for MQM.. you can forget what Gohar Ayub did and what happened in 1992.. but as a citizen of Karachi I cant forget all these things and surely I do not want to forget this...
MQM wants people to believe in its tales for the same reason that TTP wants us to imbibe its holy poison
i am from karachi and i support PTI. i work in MQM dominated area yes they can close it at their will but when its open its open and to be very frank i havent found as yet any thing associated with MQM bhatta, etc with my joint.
if i tell you worst part of city is where PPP and lyari gang war gundas reside here r few stories:
1) port containers hijacked in day light. 2) cars coming from port hijacked and held for ransom ranging from 100000 to 1 million. 3) godowns full of stuff looted taken over at their will. 4) all things you see in bollywood movie about mumbai underworld happening in city area domination by Lyari thugs.
ask any industrialist they would say they MQM looks angel in front of those lyari gundas.
also police in totally involved in crimes even they inform gangs if a person registers a FIR.
i can blame MQM for what happened yesterday and many crimes but to say and belive they are only ones or worst of them all it is totally wrong.
MQM being targeted by Rangers: Faisal Sabzwari
And the mandate of the operation is to target criminals. You get the idea.
@ Malik : Obviously the majority of all the other ethnical group of pakistan will vode against MQM because hatered against MQM is not on principels but on ethnic grounds, waring to snatch karachi from MQM people.
@Aysha M 'Please leave MQM alone.'
Sure, we pray that MQM is left ALONE!!
MQM is certainly not a club of angels. If there is a referendum in Pakistan about MQM, guess how many people will have negative expressions? I have been told by my friends in Germany / the West and Pakistan that more than 90 % will give unfavourable comments about MQM. My request to MQM: Follow the Rule of Law?
3...2...1... start "WHINING"
hahahahahahahhahahahhahaha
@Aysha M: Btw what do you mean by "Karachi". You seem quite desperate that its not getting up :P
@Omer: "it seems that 1992 era is coming again in Karachi where once again " let it come again at least there will be peace again in Karachi for the next 15 or 20 year.
@Aysha M an hour ago Reply GET UP KARACHI Please leave MQM alone. Let them do what they think is right. Let them burn down Karachi
Hopelessly shallow
Almost all my friends in Karachi (regardless of their background) say MQM is involved in many of the unlawful activities there. Most people are sick and tired of it (hence the huge swing to PTI in the elections), but just too scared of the MQM heavies / thugs to say anything in public...
To ensure law and order in Karachi, the bottom line is 1) All illegal immigrants should be repatriated legally/humanely (there are approx 3m in Karachi by some estimates. Afghans, Bengalis, Burmese, Iranians) 2) Nationwide de weaponisation - zero tolerance, including in tribal areas 3) Neutral police force which needs extensive retraining 4) Enforcement of traffic laws 50 Independent and honest judiciary
what happened in Karachi when Benazir Bhutto shot dead in Rawalpindi and Namaloom Afraad burned Karachi... what about last Lyari operation.. when police was unable to enter lyari... MQM mandate areas are very open and anyone can enter in it... it seems that 1992 era is coming again in Karachi where once again innocent people are going to be targetted... its a better move by MQM that they are showing there stance now otherwise it will be late.. good going MQM... keep your people safe as its your duty...
So who took out rallies on Sunday, even before this incident occurred, citing the same thing... 'our (not so) very innocent activist are being arrested'.
You have no right to burn the city down. Prove your innocence in court. Leave Karachi alone!
Terrorist is terrorist, whether he belongs to MQM, ANP, PPP, PST, or SMP
MQM bullying Karachi and Karachiites once again.
We all saw how you hijacked Karachi yesterday. These arrests and more are as justifiable as justifiable can be.
The rangers are also conducting raids on Uzair Baloch's residence and others as well. And if MQM has terrorists in their party, then they must accept it. And still if they are ignorant enough, then they should file a case in the court instead of shutting down Karachi and then pretending to be concerned about the city.
MQM stance: Do the cleanup of other political parties except their own criminal workers...
and
Mr.Faisal for your kind info, innocent people dont burn the whole city in just the matter of few hours...
Political parties are supporting terriorist openly.... Whats the solution
If I am not wrong, in last few days Rangers have also arrested ANP and PPP Members, correct me If I am wrong
Innocent indeed! /s
But Rangers is only targetting Criminals. If not so why didin't the go after lets say,Mustafa Kamal?
Cry Cry cry. Throw your childish tantrums. Where were you when karachi bled and cried for help
