A Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) linesman died of a heart attack on Wednesday after a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team raided his house to arrest him for allegedly rigging electricity meters.
Police said Malik Qasim, a resident of Islamia Colony, was an ‘expert’ at rigging meters. Police said two of his sons were earlier arrested on suspicion but were later released.
In another incident, a Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited task force team on Wednesday raided Muhammad Shafique’s house in Kachi Muhajir Colony, and arrested him for stealing gas and supplying it to several houses in the colony.
In yet another raid, Malik Mushtaq, a resident of Shahdara, was arrested for stealing gas through a tampered meter.
Multan Electric Power Company Assistant Manager Mian Abdul Jabbar caught Mohsin Khan, a resident of Welcome Gate, stealing electricity.
In Rahim Yar Khan, MEPCO teams arrested Danish, Nadeem, Nawaz, Shabbir and Manzoor for stealing electricity using unauthorised connections.
Police also arrested three electricity thieves on complaints filed by MEPCO SDOs and registered cases against them.
