LAHORE: A two-day art exhibition, titled Treasures of Lahore, began at LUMS on Friday.

The art work of students and teachers from the Naqsh School of Arts, a trust for poor students, was displayed in collaboration with LUMS Art Society (LAS).

The art work displayed at the exhibition included miniature paintings, pottery, sculptures, motif designs and calligraphy depicting the Mughal era. Turning paintings into a performing art, some artists printed the portraits in as little as five minutes. Several participating artists gave live demonstrations of their art works in the LUMS main courtyard. Spectators said that it was an interesting session of model drawing.

Naqsh principal Mehmoodul Hassan Romi said that the event had been arranged to promote the students, who could not afford expensive galleries. He said, “Mughal Art is the true representative of the colours of our land. We need to acknowledge them so that the peoples of world may learn about our heritage. ”

Rubab Aslam, the naqsh Head of the Miniature Department said that the work on display was a representation of the rich sub-continental culture.

LAS president, Rubab Naziri, told The Express Tribune that it was the first time such an event had been held at LUMS. She said, “We will continue to hold such events and will be visiting Naqsh School next Sunday.” Kinza Saleem, a teacher at Naqsh said, “It was very encouraging for Naqsh to exhibit their work at LUMS.”

The show will continue to till Saturday afternoon (today).
