Political ‘patronage’: IG put on notice over cop’s involvement in land grabbing

The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the provincial advocate general to file comments of the provincial home secretary and the police chief on the alleged involvement of a sub-inspector in land grabbing through political patronage.


Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, who headed the bench, issued notices while hearing a petition that accused Steel Town police station’s SI Ghulam Ahmed Abro of allegedly attempting to dispossess a citizen to usurp his land.

Jawed Baloch, the petitioner, said he owns a house in the Hashim Gumma Goth locality of Bin Qasim Town. According to him, SI Abro and some private persons are attempting to illegally occupy the land.

Baloch had lodged complaints with the police high-ups to take action against the official, who instead registered a case of fraud to take avenge, the petitioner claimed, pleading the court order Sindh IGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch to take disciplinary action against his subordinate for misusing official authority. After the preliminary hearing, the bench issued notices to the Sindh AG, SI Ghulam Abro and some private persons to file their comments by September 10.

Why does the court go overboard in all cases which are likely to make headlines. A simple order of registering an FIR against the offending police official would have sufficed. The judges owe their reinstatement to the lawyers therefore have to please them as well. The justice system was the main causality of the army rule.
