District Coordination Officer Imran Sikandar Baloch has taken note of a patwari’s misbehaviour with flood victims during Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s visit to Bala Jhallan Uch Sharif five days ago.
Baloch on Saturday directed the Ahmadpur assistant commissioner to hold an inquiry and present a report on the matter in 48 hours.
“Negligence or incompetence in the welfare of flood victims will not be tolerated,” he said, “The government is taking all possible steps to aid them.”
A survey will be taken regarding the damage and loss incurred once the water receded, Baloch said.
The victims’ homes will be reconstructed and the damage to crops will be compensated for. “17 relief camps have been established in the area,” he said, “People who were trapped because of the flood were rescued and shifted to safe locations in the first phase.”
They were then given medical treatment, vaccines for contagious diseases and fodder for cattle, he said.
The DCO said that army personnel on six boats had helped rescue victims in Ahmadpur East and the civil administration had helped shift the flood victims to safer locations.
He said that the Tehsil Municipal Administration had also ensured potable water was available at all relief camps.
