High diesel prices: Railways not to pass impact on to travellers

Railways would bear the additional burden of Rs240 million due to increase in diesel price.

Pakistan Railways has decided that it will not shift the impact of increase in diesel price to passengers, The Express Tribune has learnt.


In a meeting chaired by Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, it was decided that Railways would bear the additional burden of Rs240 million due to increase in diesel price. It would generate revenue from alternative sources to meet the extra expenditure.


The minister told the meeting that all officials serving on one post for more than three years should be shifted immediately according to government’s tenure policy and without taking pressure from any quarter.


It was further decided that hospitals being run by the Railways management would be upgraded. In the first phase, hospitals in Lahore and Multan will be upgraded.

Zain | 11 years ago | Reply PR should run only coal run engines, this will be free for PR as Pk has its own local coal. This will also save precious forex of Pk. All 50 PR Cairo trains must be made operational to take PR in to good profit. Subsequently part of profit should be given to PR employee as bonus for their hard work & good results.

The cost will instead be socialized with even those too poor to travel by rail paying for it.
