PESHAWAR:

At least six people were killed and one was injured when militants ambushed a passenger coach and other vehicles on Kohat Road Friday night.

Taliban militants ambushed the passenger coach which has killed six passengers and injured one more, confirmed additional SHO Mattani Gohar Khan while talking to The Express Tribune.

Unaware of the deadly fate that awaited the Karachi-bound bus passengers, the vehicle ran straight into the trap. The passengers were attacked with heavy and medium machine guns.

The militants had taken positions on both sides of the Kohat Road and opened gunfire at around 10pm, hitting more than a dozen vehicles plying on the dark road.

Some half a dozen vehicles on the road were hit by the bullets and it is really difficult to say which one was their target, a member of local Aman Lashker told The Express Tribune.

Following the guerilla attack, a gun battle ensued between the security officials and the attackers. The Pakistan Army was engaged with the Taliban attackers for more than an hour, but in vain.

The militants escaped from the scene, unhurt, taking complete advantage of the darkness. They escaped to Akka Khel area of Khyber Agency.

“We don’t know about the exact cause of the attack on civilian vehicles,” said SHO Khan, adding that the deceased have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

It is worth mentioning here that in the same area militants previously ambushed DPO Kohat Dilwar Khan and two military convoys which had left at least a dozen people killed and another dozen injured.

A massive search operation is underway.
