Addressing the press, the MQM said that its claim was also supported by the US Embassy who had said on September 5 that the media suggestions about stolen containers, including those containing weapons and ammunition, were incorrect.
MQM leader Babar Ghauri, who was also present at the press conference asserted that his picture was splashed all over the media in connection to the case.
"It's not only the MQM who is being falsely accused, but also the entire Muhajir community," said Ghauri.
MQM leader, Haider Abbaz Rizvi added that he had official documents to prove that the party had nothing to do with the missing containers.
Bringing the address to a close, he said that he expected the people show their support for the party.
Background
Investigation began into the missing containers case on September 2, following an order from the Supreme Court.
The missing containers case, which saw the disappearance of over 19,000 containers allegedly carrying arms, ammunition, liquor and other goods is being investigated by commission led by Ramzan Bhatti.
“Sources said that officials present at Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim, Terminal and other container terminals will be investigated and evidence will be collected,” Express News had reported.

DG Rangers, a high ranking military officer deputed in Sindh for law and order maintenance gave statement in his official capacity before the heighest court: What was his source of this information ? Did he personally believe in this allegation ? After receiving such report, did he try to know the mechanism in place for clearing containers from ports? Obviously, arms meant for an army engaged in full scale war are not those which are being used in voilance in Karachi, so possibly where arms like canons, tanks, APCs, Antiaircraft guns etc.have been kept ? had he tried to search such possible areas in Karachi or elsewhere ? Did he anticipate the aftermath of such allegations in a volatile Karachi city ? If he knew whole scenario and believed in its veracity, then why he did not convincingly name the guilty in the court?While on the other hand Supreme Court should order an enquiry after report of the Ramzan Bhatti commission is presented to it to ascertain the motive behind this propaganda and save Karachi from such conspiracies.

Yesterday Punjab police raided hostel of Punjab University where members of student union supporting a religious politial party were found giving refuge to Taliban. You must have seen the news. The Taliban man apprehended disclosed that Taliban came to Karachi under the garb of displaced Pakhtoons due to Army operation there. Same what Altaf Bhai had forewarned.

The party who allegedly lost the containers has denied it. The Supreme Court will latch on to anything to discredit the politicians. The judges don't like the military to rule and hate the politicians, what do they want.

i dont understand the need MQM has to deny , even with logical facts and proofs , always these allegations are true and MQM is the guilty party why deny it . Containers Gate Scandal should be conclusively investigated, even the die hard MQM supporters will be disappointed if any of the allegations are remotely true. As of now it appears that former minister cannot do anything as big as this, it most be a joint venture of some customs and coast guards and other such organizations
I hope this time MQM will not be tortured and ridiculed for 17 years as was done in the case of Jinnahpur.
