SC disposes Chiniot police torture case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has disposed off the Chiniot police torture case. Officials have been instructed to make the public safety commission functional at all levels to check police excesses.

The issue came to light when the media showed images of police officials subjecting seven robbery suspects to public humiliation in Chiniot. The graphic images shocked the public and raised serious concerns about human rights being violated by the police.

The Supreme Court which took suo moto notice over the issue, has remarked that it is the court's duty to declare a person guilty or not.

During the hearing, Inspector General Police Sindh presented a report of cases initiated against police personnel involved in illegal activities.

Officials have been instructed to enforce court orders within a month.
