Pakistan’s duo of IBSF World Champion Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Majid continued their frustrating run in the Sangsom 6-Red World Championship, as they once again failed to open their accounts on day three in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
With these defeats, the chances for both cueists to progress into the next round are over. However, they each have one more match to play before exiting the event.
Asif was defeated by Andrew Pagett 5-4 as the Asian 6-Red Champion failed to earn a single win in the four matches played so far.
Pagett put up an impressive show, initially taking a 3-0 lead which included a clear of 74 points in the third frame -— however Asif showed great nerves by winning the next two frames to make it 3-2. Pagett, though, restored his dominance by winning the sixth frame to go up 4-2, only for Asif to claw his way back to make it 4-4 to set up a tense decider.
However, Pagett kept his composure by winning the ninth frame and seal victory with game scores of 40-13, 44-12, 74-0, 0-69, 0-62, 33-30, 08-44, 25-34 and 41-0.
Asif has so far registered defeats againt England’s pair of Barry Hawkins and Ricky Walden 5-2 respectively, while Thailand’s James Wattana had pipped him 5-4 in the opening match of the championship.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s other player Majid was humbled by Matthew Stevens of Wales 5-2.
It was a good start for Majid in the match as he led 2-1 at one stage, however he failed to capitalise, losing at the end with games scores of 44-4,21-29,1-40,28-9,39-10,37-25 and 33-19.
