KARACHI:

Army began their campaign in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) with a win against PAF 1-0 at the Railway Stadium in Lahore yesterday.

After playing a goalless first-half, Army’s Rehman Ali scored the winner, late in the 86th minute of the match.

Army, who finished fourth last season, came in with confidence, as their coach Shafqat Mehmood stated that his new team could win the title this season by playing more of a European style of game in the domestic tournament.

“I have a new team and I’ve prepared them to play a very European style of the game, where my team thrives on passes,” Mehmood told The Express Tribune. “The team is 80% new, my players are physically very fit and they will have an edge over the others. Our aim is to win the title.”

Meanwhile, in today’s fixtures, KPT will play PIA in Karachi while Wapda will face ZTBL in Lahore.
