KARACHI: A private security guard was shot dead and another injured when they tried to foil an armed robbery bid at a house on main Khayaban-e-Saadi in Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday afternoon. A neighbour told The Express Tribune that the incident set off alarm bells in the area, where a number of houses have security systems installed. “I saw vehicles of a security company in the area flanked by the police, and found out that the guards of my neighbours had been shot while trying to foil a robbery attempt,” he said. The incident has sent a shiver down the spines of the residents. “How can the criminals dare to break into a house which is protected by guards? I have directed my gatekeeper to not open the door for anyone before checking their identification,” said the resident. An FIR has been registered at the Gizri police station. The police, however, were not available for comments.

Foiled' attempt? The whole scenario proved how pointless the guards are of security companies concerned. Rather than being on an offensive after arriving at the scene of the crime as the residents had pressed the panic button. The two guards were standing ringing the bell of the house concerned without having their weapons un-holstered. Both of them were standing dumbstruck in front of the gate while the assailant got out and shot both of them, fetched his bike and left! Keep in mind that there was only One robber and Two 'armed' guards who had responded to a 'panic' request. The least they could have done was to be ready for any situation. Had they been so, the suspect would have either been apprehended or brought down. This is not the rant of someone who is not involved as the above-mentioned 'attempt' was made at my aunts place and it was more than an attempt. The decoit did manage to steal away valuables and cash.
