KARACHI:

Two suspects, including a woman, were remanded to police custody for three days in connection with an extortion case by the Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday. The suspects, Faisal Rafiq and Hina Siddiqui, were brought to the court and the police sought their custody for interrogation.

Judge Saleem Raza Baloch of the ATC-III remanded the suspect, Rafiq, in police custody and sent the woman to the women police station for three days. The complainant of the case, Azmat, a trader by profession, had gone to the Citizen Police Liaison Committee and the police station, saying that someone was threatening him to pay extortion money since August 7. The law enforcers traced the numbers and found that the suspects who were threatening Azmat were allegedly his employees.

The police arrested both of them on September 3 and registered a case, No.155/13, under section 385 and 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code read with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, at the Brigade police station.
