PESHAWAR: Tanzeem Tahafuz-e-Haqooq (TTH) Chitral protested outside the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday and demanded 30 megawatts of electricity be supplied to the people living in the district where Golen Gol hydropower project is being constructed. The demonstrators were led by TTH Chairman Sadiq Amin and General Secretary Shakiruddin. Amin criticised the federal and provincial governments, claiming they were apathetic to the problems faced by the district. “The mountains in the district have been leased to a particular group, while another group wreaks havoc in the forests,” he argued. The people living in the district do not benefit from the mineral resources in Chitral and continue to lag behind in the development index, he added. Citing a Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) report, Amin claimed there were 33 spots in the province where hydel power can be generated, of which 18 were in Chitral.
