“After taking all points of views into account, the prime minister has decided to form a committee, which will be responsible for taking immediate action against heinous crimes like extortion and terrorists among others,” Chaudhry Nisar said.
Headed by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, the committee will look after matters involving immediate targeted operations against those responsible for Karachi’s deteriorating law and order situation.
The interior minister further added that the rangers will lead the operation, while the police department will support them. Furthermore, federal and provincial intelligence agencies will provide the information.
“A legal committee will come under the main committee, headed by Zahid Hamid, which will address the concerns of rangers regarding their lack of authority in some regions of the city and the inadequacy of the system that lets the culprits go,” he said.
“Another operational committee will be formed, under the leadership of DG Rangers. Under this committee, rangers, police and intelligence agencies will meet daily and discuss the activities regarding the operation,” Chaudhry Nisar added.
He also said that the IGP Sindh has been ordered to revamp the police department and suspend and arrest police officials who are involved in criminal activities or are a disgrace to the department.
An additional monitoring committee, involving members of civil society, will look after operational activities. The minister said that the committee will include bureaucrats, senior media persons and businessmen among others, who are not associated with any political party.
“One police station, per district, will be identified as the focal station for investigation and operation. Even rangers will be involved in the investigation,” he said.
Chaudhry Nisar said that this is a big test of partnership between federal and provincial government. “We want to show that we can join hands for the sake of national interest.”
Commenting on media’s role he said, “Media plays a very crucial role in this whole exercise. We request you to support us and stop the race of breaking the story first and guide us if we do something wrong.”
The news conference was also attended by Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ebad.

Some quotes about committees:
A committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but who, as a group, can meet and decide that nothing can be done.
A committee is a group of the unwilling chosen form the unfit, to do the unnecessary.
A committee is a group that keeps minutes and loses hours - Milton Berle
A committee is a thing which takes a week to do what one good man can do in an hour.
And these guys formed 4 of them, imagine the thought process of these geniuses.
Both the CM(PPP) and Governor (MQM) did not participate in the Cabinet Meeting. Very disappointed.Just shows how serious they are to bring about safety and security in Karachi
This so called operation is a farce. You never publicize such operations openly in public for a week before initiating it. They are supposed to be well planned and covert in nature. The big fish aka criminal heads/gangsters would already have either gone underground or left the city by now. This operation will result in temporary peace followed by long term instability. What a joke!!!
The best joke these days about the confused government goes like this:
“An important meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office today to consider key challenges relating to defence and foreign affairs.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting.
Foreign Minister Nawaz Sharif briefed PM Nawaz Sharif on key foreign policy challenges confronting the country.
Defence Minister Nawaz Sharif shared his ideas with PM Nawaz Sharif on how best to strengthen the country’s Defence.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed Foreign Minister Nawaz Sharif and Defence Minister Nawaz Sharif to brief Chairman of the National Security Council, Nawaz Sharif.
PM Sharif, FM Sharif and DM Sharif also decided to consult all political parties on these key issues. So PM Sharif, FM Sharif and DM Sharif will soon brief PML (N) chief Nawaz Sharif at his residence in Raiwind who will then contact other political parties.
PM Sharif will soon travel to Raiwind to attend this briefing for PML (N) Chief Sharif by FM Sharif and DM Sharif.”
PMLN does not want to do anything in Karachi, except Politics!! Nothing will change
Stop joking to the nation, people are dying like sheeps!!
Isn't it enough advance news for culprits to reorganize, prepared, and hide for good? After all this so called plan will be leaked to them no matter what.
Come to Karachi, warn all to hide their militants. Clean Karachi and wait 1 month and back to normal...1000+ killed in 1 month
A quick fix would be ideal but I think steady solution is going to last more. The government should use media to educate people on how they can help reduce crime. There should be a call center where suspicious activity or crime can be reported. We should not under estimate power of people. Pakistani citizens need to take more responsibility. Let the PM use your tax money to resolve your problems dont just criticize everything.
May Allah courage him to do something instead of a number committees
NS came, he saw, scratched his head and left.
I don't think it will have any impact on Karachi situation as long as PPP is in power and MQM has its governor. Nothing is expected from current police and rangers. Only and Only Army rule can bring change to Karachi Situation.
Positive gesture from all corner of society indicates new and peaceful beginning for karachi
Hakeem Baloch , MNA of PML(N) from Malir. He was in the meeting headed by the prime minister of Pakistan. In the recent interview of Uzair Baloch of Lyari Gang openly said that Hakeem Baloch was supported by him during elections , thats why he won the election. If it is so , then how gangster-supported MNA can attend the meeting for peace in Karachi ? I just wonder. You can find that interview in dailymotion , Interview was taken by Shazaib Khanzada.
ET please don't delete my post.
"Headed by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, the committee will........"
There I stopped reading this so-called plan to tackle Karachi issues!
"Headed by Qaim Ali Shah..."
There goes the committee. If Nawaz Sharif didn't want to do anything, why did he bother coming to Karachi?! Another waste of taxpayer money.
and that will result in many more 'committees' to be formed.
