General physician among 11 men killed

Two of the victims belonged to a political party.

At least 11 people, including political workers, were killed in the city on Friday.


A general physician, 65-year-old Dr Abdullah Paracha, was killed near Five Star Chowrangi. Police said the victim was returning home from his clinic in Paposh Nagar when four armed men opened fire.

A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Mazhar Hussain, was killed and his companion, Naseem, was wounded when armed motorcyclists opened fire on them in Gulshan-e-Bihar market in Orangi Town. Police said the victim was associated with MQM unit 123-A.

Another MQM worker, Mohammad Ejaz, was shot dead near Ghausia Chowk in Orangi Town. Mominabad SHO Ahmed Butt said the victim was associated with MQM’s unit 125.  He was standing near his home when two armed motorcyclists killed him.

A suspected member of the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee (PAC), Habib aka Anda, was shot dead near Lasbella. Jamshed Quarters SHO Safdar Mashwani said the victim was wanted in a number of cases. Two friends, Mohammad Azhar Siddiqui and Haseebur Rehman, were shot dead in a targeted attack in Orangi Town.

The bodies of Gulshan Bibi and her six-year-old daughter, Eemaan, were found from inside their house in Korangi. Bibi’s second daughter, Minu, 9, was also found with critical injuries. Naseeb Zada, a driver at a private firm, was shot dead near Kati Pahari.

Madina Bibi, a mother of four children, was found dead from her house in Liaquatabad. Unidentified persons threw a hand grenade at the residence of jeweller, Haji Ismail, in Khayaban-e-Shamsheer. SHO Ahsan Zulfiqar said that the initial investigation suggests that extortionists might have been behind the attack.
