ISLAMABAD: Members of the upper house of parliament on Thursday paid tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari for his pursuit of “tolerance and reconciliation” in an effort to strengthen democratic norms in the country.

Senator Haji Adeel speaking during the debate on the presidential address to the joint session of parliament said he was the first president who surrendered his powers to parliament and lauded his role in the National Finance Commission award, provincial autonomy through the 18th amendment and steps taken for provincial harmony.

His policy of reconciliation strengthened democracy and made it possible transfer of power from one elected government to other in a democratic manner, he said.
