A district government task force raided a cafeteria adjacent the Rahim Yar Khan Press Club and found illegal gas and electricity connections.
Three people were arrested, but the café’s owner fled. City A-Division police have registered a case against those arrested and two other men, including the owner on the complaint of the SNGPL officials.
The task force was formed on the directions of District Coordination Officer Nabeel Javed on August 27.
The DCO said that they had received a tip about illegal gas and electricity connections at the café.
He said the task force, supervised by Assistant Commissioner Javed Ahmad, had raided the café and discovered an unauthorised gas supply line from the main supply pipe. He said the café owner had also attached cable wires to the TMA transformer. All illegal connections were disconnected. Three café workers, identified as Siraj Ahmad, Tariq Shah and Riyasat Ali, were arrested.
The assistant commissioner later told reporters that the café owner had been stealing gas and electricity for a while.
Also on Thursday, an FIA team sealed a factory in Bahawalpur after detecting power theft.
The Nasir Group of Industries had been stealing electricity through underground wiring.
The raid was led by FIA Inspector Mashood Jameel.
He said the team also discovered that the factory administration had tampered with the meters.
He said six to seven mills were being run by stolen power.
