The secretary for the Home and Tribal Affairs Department was transferred with immediate effect on Thursday.

There have been two brazen jailbreaks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa - in Bannu and DI Khan - during Muhammad Azam Khan’s tenure.

A press release issued by the establishment department said Khan has now been appointed as chairman of the Sarhad Development Authority Peshawar and will replace Shahrukh Arbab.

Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, who was the additional inspector general of police (special branch), has now been made the home department secretary.

There have been a number of suspensions and transfers since July 29 when militants from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan launched an attack on the DI Khan Central Prison and freed nearly 250 prisoners, including high-profile militants.
