Yasin Bhatkal was arrested on the India-Nepal border near the town of Gorakhpur in northern Uttar Pradesh state, Indian television channels NDTV and CNN-IBN reported, citing unnamed sources.
The banned Indian Mujahideen came to public attention in November 2007 following serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh and is blamed for multiple attacks since in cities across the country in which hundreds of people have been killed.
The group is thought to head a network of home-grown militant groups, with some analysts believing it has links with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed militant organisations.
If confirmed it would be another success for the Indian security forces following the arrest earlier this month of another alleged top militant, Abdul Karim Tunda, who is thought to be a senior member of the LeT.
It is not known if the two arrests are linked but Tunda, who was also arrested near the Nepal border, has been cooperating with police, according to newspaper reports.
He is accused of helping mastermind serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993 in which 250 people died, as well as more than 40 other deadly bomb attacks across the country.

@1947: ask google to stop showing Pakistani articles while searching from India. Actually, google pk does not get enough traffic from Pak, that is why google add pakistani articles in Indian search.
Our brothers in the Gulf have been very helpful over the last 5 years. They wait for these terrorists to turn up at their airports and nab them and ship them off to Nepal to be retrieved by the Indian security personnel.
@Rabbani: You are pretty brainwashed. As they say ignorance is bliss.
Thanks
@Rabbani:
"Because India has a habit of arresting and extra-judicially murdering innocent Muslim men. Take Afzal Guru for instance."
Thanks for clarifying that Afzal Guru is innocent because he killed only Hindus.
@Rabbani: You can keep these innocents with you if you want.
''Just in the case of Yasin Bhatkal, in the courts police had submitted footage from 170 CCTV cameras of Yasin carrying and planting a bomb in German Bakery in Pune.''
Did you personally go and inspect the 'material' he was planting? If he is a terrorist, the court will punish him. If he is not, the court will release him. And mind you, he will be safely as an Indian citizen. Who are you to decide and pass judgements?
I strong protest against your anti-India comments.
@Talha Rizvi: "@ Modified: You are clealy obsessed with Pakistan."
I must admit, you are fairly accurate in your observation. Its only through my obsession that I have learned and still learning so much about Pakistan. Sitting outside, I take a holistic view and try to be as objective as humanly possible. Through this obsession I have learned many good things about Pakistan and of course about ills of Pakistan as well. Wish you Pakistanis also learn objectively about India in the same way. Don't you think we Indians add to the quality of debate here ? One sided debates don't do any good to either side. We learn about your view point also.
@Rabbani: Afjal guru who attacked indian parliament was innocent???....he killed 13 indian soldier and still you calling him innocent....typical pakistani attitude...
"The reason the word ‘alleged’ is used is because it is assumed he is innocent until proven guilty in a court. India has rules to follow and justice is delivered. There is a street court, neighborhood court, city court, district court, provincial court, inter-provincial court, territorial court, country court and finally, the Presidential court. A person has to be proven guilty in each of these courts and is given a chance to re-appeal his decision 3 times in every court. So, it is with great scrutiny the Indian courts work."
Whoever wrote this as a reply to me mistakenly used my name to comment. Anyway, there is no reason to use the term "allegedly" in the case of Yasin Bhatkal as well as Tunda because both of them have been on India's most wanted list for a long time and the police has more than enough evidence against both of them. Just in the case of Yasin Bhatkal, in the courts police had submitted footage from 170 CCTV cameras of Yasin carrying and planting a bomb in German Bakery in Pune. No individual is put on the Most Wanted list unless he is a confirmed culprit with strong evidence.

Many months ago, I commented that Hafiz Saeed will not be able to perform Hajj Pilgrimage any more. Just keep this in mind. I also repeat my comments again. Hafiz Saeed will be handed over to USA (not to India) by Pakistan itself, but they will pretend that they did not hand him over.
Watch the videos attached to this Dawn News Special: http://lubpak.com/archives/20144
Interestingly, Hafiz Saeed claimed in a recent TV show that it was RAW agents who killed his Chief of Security, Bashir.
@1947 so you agree tjis is pakistani news!
@rabbani- those terrorists who u r calling innocent muslim men have committed such crimes that has killed people including muslims who r definitly innocent.
NAWAS is fullfilling his promise to the pakistani people to free pakistan from terrorists........
@ModiFied: Both of his brothers are still in karachi you should give some kudos to agencies for this catch
strategic assets of pakistan are surrendering so easily...
@Rabbani: stop thinking abt afzal guru,,,bcoz u have to think abt Hafeez saeed and ur LET operatives,,,like this!!!
He is not just a simple terrorist but operational commander of IM it took a covert operation in Nepal to catch this big fish killer of 229 innocent lives 12 bomb plants and a wanted man by police of 8 cities in India including a few ATSs kudos to security agencies for nabbing him
Cosmo
Or maybe they are intelligent and patriotic and see no good in further advancing Indian propaganda.
@ModiFied: Not surrender, but deportation from certain Gulf states like Dubai.
Alann
Because India has a habit of arresting and extra-judicially murdering innocent Muslim men. Take Afzal Guru for instance.
@Alann: A section of ET authors have real vendetta against india. They cant help it- the pakiatani patriotism kicks in and Like many other pakistanis they too find solace in hating india.
@Professor (I wonder why this is news in Pakistan !)
I wonder why Indians reading Pakistani news?
They are all caught at Indo-Nepal border. Is it a mere coincidence or more than that ? In my view they travel back to India via Nepal under some sort of surrender agreement. I am sure within next 2-3 days this guy will also tell about his life in Pakistan.
It is unfortunate that ET decides to add the term "alleged" in front of every militant arrested by India.
:-) good
So sad. Got caught very soon. I hope pakistan learns from India on how to deal with these kind of people.
I wonder why this is news in Pakistan !
Well done. Better late than never.
This is not a good news for pakistan........
