The government has decided to raise the the monthly licence fees for the state's official television channel, Pakistan Television (PTV), from Rs35 to Rs60, a cost that comes incorporated into all domestic electricity bills in the country, reported Express News.

For those customers consuming between 10 to 100 power units, the new bill also comes with a Rs100 additional charge under the label of 'income tax'.

The government has not made any official announcements regarding these developments.

However, officials from the Lahore Electric Supply Corporation (LESCO) told Express News on Wednesday that the increase was made on orders from the federal government.

The State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali expressed his ignorance over the matter.

Express News correspondent Talib Fareedi reported that LESCO officials have been ordered to apply the revised rates on all bills from August onwards.

While the 'income tax' charges will go to into the accounts of the Federal Board of Revenue, the increase in licence fees will be collected by PTV.

I don't understand why I have to pay for a channel that I don't bother to watch even on Cable TV. I instantly move to next channel if i stumble accross PTV during random browsing.

Everything about that channel from its dull News Staff / talk shows to all programs reek of the dull / half-hearted sarkaari-daftar vibe. Since half of their staff is safarshi and have no talent!

To create awareness in the masses, I was expecting that PTV license fee will be completely abolished in Pakistan by the Federal Government, but the Federal Government has increased the PTV license fee from Rs.35 per residential unit to Rs.60 per residential unit.

There are so many residential units in the country where no body actually lives in the apartments or the buildings and the respective electricity supply companies are aware of the facts, but the electricity generating companies are charging the PTV License fee to the owners of the vacant residential units as well.

The popularity of the Government is going down with the passage and most of the people are of the opinion that PML(N) Government is walking on the same foot steps as has been set by the PPP Government.
