MUZAFFARABAD:

Indian troops continued ‘unprovoked’ shelling in the forward Kahuta sector on the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday, injuring a civilian.

According to Assistant Commissioner Chaudhry Ayub, the latest instance of violence took place in the Nezapir Keerni area, some 150 km from Muzaffarabad, damaging a house in addition to wounding a civilian.

Tension remains high as exchanges of cross-border firing across the LoC have upped in frequency during the past four weeks. Soldiers and civilians alike have been killed and injured on both sides.

Previously, the last instance of the 2003 ceasefire violations occurred on Monday when Indian troops opened fire in Nakyal Sector’s Turkandi area, 200 km south of the AJK capital, injuring six civilians.

So far, six Pakistanis are reported to have been killed in firing across the heavily militarised ceasefire line since five Indian soldiers were killed on August 5.
