ISLAMABAD:

Illegal extensions in government quarters by occupants are on the rise in various sectors of the federal capital.

Although the allotment rules of the government quarters state that occupants cannot make modifications in the existing building structure, illegal extensions in government houses continue in sectors G-6, G-7 and G-9 through the construction of rooms on the quarters’ roofs and the extension of courtyards.

Some of the occupants have even rented out rooms as the authorities concerned are not taking action against such activities, said a resident of Sector G-7.

Residents of the surrounding areas have expressed concern about the government employees living there as it seems on the outside that no rules are applicable to them.

When contacted, a senior official  of Capital Development Authority (CDA) said they can take action on the Estate Office’s request.

An official of the Estate Office said the practice was never checked and there was a dire need for a proper mechanism to stop it.
