Ensuring accountability: CCPO orders crackdown against corrupt police officials

A DSP, two SHOs, two sub-inspectors and one ASI among those singled out so far.

Acting CCPO Mian Muhammad Asif has ordered a large-scale crackdown against corrupt police officials in the district. So far, one DSP, two SHOs, two sub-inspectors, one ASI and three head constables have been taken to task by SSP Operations, states an official handout issued on Monday.


ASI Sajid was arrested and an FIR has been registered against him for illegally detaining a child without charges in Gulbahar. Constable Amjid and Bashir Khan are also nominated in the case and are currently being held in custody. All three accused have been suspended from their duties.

Similarly, sub-inspector Sajad Khan of Nasir Bagh police station was transferred to Police Lines after being found guilty of abusing his powers to settle a business dispute. Sub-inspector Ali Hussain and constable Ikram were found cutting deals with a drug smuggler and have also been suspended, while the smuggler was arrested and an FIR was registered against him.

SSP Operations has issued a letter to Nasir Bagh SHO Sazwali, warning him of taking action if he is found slacking on the job. Circle officer at the same police station was also sent a letter of ‘advice’.

Similarly, a charge-sheet has been issued against Sarband SHO Inspector Rehmatullah for failing to control the actions of his subordinate. Town police muharar Tehseenullah, Faqirabad head constable Israr Khan and Hayatabad additional muharar head constable Zakirullah were also suspended for being absent from duty without prior notice.

Campus police SP Muhammad Hussain, City SP Muhammad Ismail, Town ASP Umar and Cantt ASP Bilal have been appointed as inquiry officers to overlook these cases. The Police Accountability Commission will take further action once the inquiries are complete.

The crackdown against corrupt officials is part of police reforms.

This is the change Imran Khan was talking about. He will, InshAllah wipe out corruption from the roots.
