KASUR:

The three-day 255th urs of sufi poet Bulleh Shah ended here on Sunday.

Thousands of devotees from across the Punjab and other provinces paid homage to the renowned Punjabi poet and sufi, whose given name was Syed Abdullah Shah.

The urs was organised by the shrine committee members, while the Auqaf Department employees remained absent from their duty.

Mushaira and a Heer recitation competition were the main events of the day. Several people, including Saeen Zahoor, presented Bulleh Shah’s poetry.

The ban on dhamal imposed last year remained in place. Foolproof security arrangements had been made. Stalls offering traditional food and sweets had been set up around the shrine.

The last day of the event was marked by the 22nd Bulleh Shah Conference at the Tehsil Council Hall. It was organised by the Majlis-i-Bulleh Shah.

Bulleh Shah was born in Uch Gilaniyan near Bahawalpur. His parents moved to Malakwal when he was six-months-old. Bulleh Shah moved to Kasur for higher education. There he found a mentor in Shah Inayat Qadri.

Bulleh Shah wrote in the genre of kafi. His poetry mainly highlighted social ills and hypocrisy in humans.
