LAHORE: A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court on Thursday seeking directions for the federal government to start work on the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline or face a Rs3 million dollar fine per day to the Iranian government until the completion of the project.
Advocate Chaudhry Ahmad Masood Gujjar had filed a petition stating that under the pressure of Saudi Arabia and United States, the new government of Pakistan is postponing the project.
He pointed out that on May 27 Iranian government also wrote a letter expressing their concerns over the delay in the project.
He noted that the project would add 5,000MW to the national power grid apart from providing jobs to the people of Sindh and Balochistan.
