National pride: Two Karachi students make it to international leadership camp

The students had to win a national event before making it to the international one.

Two students from different universities have made it to the Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp (BioCamp) to be held in Switzerland from August 25 to August 28.


Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology’s (Szabist) student council president, Govinda Hira, participated in the third national BioCamp and secured 6:0 votes from the panel of judges. The first runner-up was a Karachi University Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research student, Meha Fatima, who received 5:1 votes in her favour.

The two students first proved their mettle at the national event before getting a chance to represent the country at the international BioCamp to be held at Novartis International headquarters in Basel, which brings together around 60 top students selected from science and business universities around the world.



The three-day convention aims at educating the talented students about the new trends and challenges in the biotechnology sector.

Apart from Szabist and KU, students from the Institute of Business Administration, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Institute of Business Management, University of Balochistan, Ziauddin University, Hamdard University, Islamia University of Bahawalpur, University of Punjab, University of Peshawar and Baqai Medical University tried their luck at the national BioCamp.
