Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani called Indian High Commissioner TCA Raghavan to the Foreign Office on Thursday and conveyed Pakistan’s serious concern over the continued and unwarranted ceasefire violations by the Indian army resulting in loss of precious human lives.
He also called upon the Government of India to respect the ceasefire agreement and desist from such acts that had the potential to further escalate rising tensions between the two neighbours.
Foreign Secretary Jilani while conveying concern over the recent incidents also expressed the Government of Pakistan’s desire to engage in a constructive dialogue process with India aimed at reducing tensions and restoring peace and tranquility along the Line of Control.
In this regard, he proposed that senior officials from the foreign ministries and militaries could meet to discuss ways and means to strengthen and expand the existing military and political mechanisms to ensure that the Ceasefire Agreement was observed in letter and spirit.
The attack is the latest in a spate of recent cross-border skirmishes between the two neighbours.
The two sides agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC in November 2003, but skirmishes have flared across the heavily-militarised Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border in Kashmir, in recent weeks, with both sides blaming each other for having violated the agreement.

No point summoning anyone, close down Pakistani high commission in India, if this government is really sincere, and order the army to take action against these violations.

Foreign Secretary Jilani was declared persona non grata when he was a diplomat at the Pak High Commission in New Delhi and was expelled. The charge against him was of distributing cash to "trouble makers" in India. Whether this allegation was true or not is another matter. But can't the Foreing Office have someone else lodge the protest with the Indian High Commissioner? Rightly or wrongly the Indians have a rather poor opinion of Jilani and he should be kept behind the curtain in all dealings with India. Nawaz Sharif, Sartaj Aziz and Tariq Fatmi should make a note of this.
If Pakistan has any future, the correct thing to be happening should be Nawaz Sharif summoning Kayani to his office and asking him to just stop it. Alas.
Keep summoning and yelling at Indian commissioner as if he cares a lot what you have to say. Admit it or not, these people would still only put up strong protest even if their own children get killed. No value of life in any Muslim country.
No meeting is necessary. Stop trying to infiltrate and the ceasefire will automatically get implemented in letter and spirit. Pakistan just wants a pretence of talks to assure foreign investors that Pakistan is peace loving. No need for India to provide this fig leaf to a country practicing naked aggression.
