The Sindh government has decided to set up the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Paediatrics Hospital in the NICVD building to provide treatment to children with heart diseases.
The provincial government has already approved funds worth Rs1 billion for the project and the formal announcement is expected at the institute’s golden jubilee celebrations this weekend.
The chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah, will officially announce the establishment of the department at the three-day symposium starting on Friday to mark the NICVD’s golden jubilee.
A meeting was held on Tuesday, headed by health secretary Inamullah Dharejo, to discuss the project. NICVD director Prof. Khan Shah Zaman, National Institute of Child Health director Prof. Jamal Raza and other prominent professionals of the medical fraternity attended the meeting.
Dharejo informed the meeting that the NICVD Paediatrics Hospital project would be completed in three years. The three-storey hospital will be fully equipped with modern facilities. He said that children with heart complications, who previously had to go abroad for treatment, would be able to avail treatment in Karachi.
