Peace and tolerance: ‘Sufi teachings need to be promoted’

The meeting also discussed ways to promote Punjabi Literature across the globe.

FAISALABAD: “It is the need of the hour that Sufi teaching be promoted,” Government College University, Faisalabad, Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Learning Dean Tahir Taunsvi said on Wednesday. He was speaking at a meeting attended by GCUF Punjabi Department Coordinator Aasima Ghulam Rasool and several teachers. Taunsvi said the message of Sufi saints could help the country’s youth promote brotherhood and tolerance. He said the GCUF had set up a Bahu Chair at the university to help students better understand Sultan Bahu’s message. He said Bahu’s poetry was based on Islamic mysticism “giving us solutions to all our problems.” He urged the participants to ask students to take up Punjabi lesions. The meeting also discussed ways to promote Punjabi Literature across the globe.
