Stringent measures: Security plan finalised for NA-1

Security arrangements for NA-1 Peshawar-I have been finalised ahead of the upcoming by-polls, with over 3,000 policemen to be deployed in the constituency.

The army will remain on standby and will assist police in the event of any emergency, said a police official. He added checkpoints will be established in places where security is required and a large number of policemen will be deployed to avert any untoward situation.



The official said they had received reports stating militants could try to sabotage the elections, but claimed the police had worked out a comprehensive security plan including setting up a control room to coordinate with the provincial election commission, government and army.



Unlike the run-up to the general elections, the atmosphere ahead of the by-polls remains peaceful, providing candidates with the opportunity to conduct door-to-door campaigns.

A total of 225 polling stations have been set up in the constituency. These include 115 for males and 109 for females while one is for both. The number of registered voters stands at 320,581 including 126,696 female voters.
