ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari asked the government to extend the moratorium on the death penalty that has been in place since the last five years on Sunday, Express News reported.
Earlier, the newly elected Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government had announced to keep the policy unchanged after assuming power.
According to a government spokesperson, the policy has been kept in place in accordance with the directives of President Zardari to the government.
Currently out of the country, the President planned to discuss the policy with the current PML-N government and has hence asked the policy to remain unchanged for now, the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he will not come under pressure from any threat related to the policy on the death penalty.

The reason is that the talibans have warner of repercussions if death sentence is carried out on any of the terrorist. So everyone has chickened out.

So, according to, being secular means forgiving those who have killed scores of people and devastated thousands of family? If PPP doesn't want to take credit or take part in any activity that brings justice to the victims of terror activities, it should disband itself. Pakistan has no need of such parties.

I don't know why the president is not exercising this law.

Nawaz Sharif, it's time to take action or our enemies on the streets of Karachi, those blowing up monuments in Baluchistan , those involved in sectarian violence - all of them will be emboldened.
In fact , the government needs to execute all the terrorists in one swoop. All of them rightly on death row need to be executed in one go , so governmrnt is not blackmailed.
This is the difference between a secular and a rightwing govt. Let them kill as many people as they want but only under their own govt not under PPP's name. Life with hard labor is not a bad substitute as a civilized nation in 21st century.
So the president dont like it. Well what about target killings on the streets, does that move him to take firm action or he dont read the newspapers.
Both will be asked about the Order given by the Creator in dealing with such matters, the lighter they leave these executions the more criminals they are producing......
