India released water into River Sutlej for the second time despite flooding in nearby villages. As a result, villages located by the river bank will most likely be destroyed completely while more than 50 villages near the river will suffer damage.
These villages are being evacuated by rescue teams and the residents are being taken to relief camps on higher ground.
Spillways have been opened in Tarbela dam to reduce the height of the water.
The flood in River Ravi has so far deluged 17 villages including Dalwan, Chishtian, Hashim Chakreeb, Jungle Seet and Bhopri in Mian Channu. Some of the villagers have alleged that not opening the gates of Head Sidhnai could have saved them by causing water level in the river to fall but this was not done.
In Kasur, crops over hundreds of acres of land have been damaged and several villages inundated due to flood in River Sutlej. The flood has so far affected Ganda Singhwala, Bhikki Wind, Gitti Kalunger, Nagar Aimen, Mahiwala, Talwar Post, Basti Bangladesh and Bilalwala.
The health, livestock and other departments concerned have set up camps to vaccinate livestock.
The Khanewal district administration has said that it is prepared to deal with any emergency in Kabirwala and Mian Channu in case of a flood.

Jamaat Ali Shah did not sell Pakistan's interests. He was chased out of Pakistan because he spoke the truth. There have been other cases which have been taken to arbitration even after Jamat Ali Shah was chased out and Pakistan did not win those suits. Very disappointed by this headline by ET which is so misleading. Yes when water goes above the danger mark it has to be released. To imply that this was done with diabolical intent. To hurt Pakistan is simply irresponsible. Had the water not been released and dam been breached, much more destruction would visit the same Pakistanis.
Also it is Pakistan that prevents India from building greater storage capacity. If India does not have storage capacity, it has no choice but to release water.
India should build additional dams and protect our neighbors from floods.. India should not play with the lives of people...aka muslims
So now Pakistanis are angry with us because we released water into Pakistan....
I propose a solution for this...We will divert the five rivers of Punjab to Rajasthan and then it passes Gujarat and all the way to Arabian Sea...
In this way,we can not only prevent Pakistan from flooding,but also irrigate the dry Rajasthan and Rann of Kutch.....

Wrong information! Accordingly to Indus water treaty, India can only construct run-of-water? dams, if India is not allowed to store water...how can it release them ???

Pakistan's National Assembly should totally pass a resolution against India releasing water condemning this act and declaring it as an act against Muslims. It should also pass a resolution to allocate more funds to officials so they can make frequent trips to Saudi Arabia and China and ask (cough) for money to buy properties in the United Kin...oops I meant to say, to build dams.
Here is some food for thought.
One way to minimize the flooding in Pakistan is for Pakistan to allow India to build more upstream dams (outside of the Indus treaty) and store water when there is a flood situation in Pakistan. On these special dams, India will be able to store water only when Pakistan asks India to do so. Such an agreement can be added as an amendment to the Indus treaty.

When water rises very high, it has to be released. This also happens within the dams in Pakistan. Pakistan wants that when there is too my ch water, India should bear 100% of the flooding and when there is a drought, India should bear 100% of the shortage. It does not work that way. Both countries need to deal with too much water and inadequate water. This illogical blaming of India needs to stop.
India is also taking out electricity and sending phoka pani into Pakistan.

Pakistan should build dam. Pakistan must not allow people to settle or build homes in the area where water can come during flood season. This way there will be no loss of life or personal property . Before we blame India we must take preventive and right steps. Historically every four to five yrs, we run into this kind of situation. We must take the corrective measures and set our own house in order.

Every dam has a danger level.Once the water reaches this level,the water has to be released,or else there is a danger of the dam wall breaching.What happens if the dam wall is damaged.There will be vast flooding and maybe loss of life in Pakistan.So the engineers who monitor the water level will release the water if the level approaches the danger mark.Whitesky has explained the situation very well,but he has got only 11 recommendations.Shows the lack of common sense from the Pakistani readers

Very simple guys, Pak is running out of foreign reserves and hence cannot import oil. But fortunately they have invented the magic car that runs on water. India is helping by releasing more water so that the "Water car" will not run out water. Get it ?
What's the difference? Pakistan did the same during last floods. As a result, there was massive flooding in the areas surrounding the dams, and of course down stream. Dams don't solve the problem unless used wisely.

It is high time people start looking at accountability of their own governments. India has no desire to purposefully use water as a tool to punish Pakistan. Pakistanis should at-least take a look at what is behind the release before accusing India blindly.

If the rain continues there will be more water coming in the downstream . the small dams built by India can hold a specific quantity of water and beyond that either you release the water in a planned manner or excess water may cause hole or spill or break a portion of dam resulting in flash flood in villages adjacent to the rivers . such flash flood will create havoc and cause more damage to the crop, property, houses, livestock and human life. Hence the planned release of water with prior information to Pakistani authorities so that adequate safety steps can be taken proactively. India did release water in sutler and Ravi earlier in this month with advance information to Pakistan. Pakistan should build dam on the rivers up stream which will help energy production and irrigation. This aspect have been ignored by all concerned or even opposed with short sighted ness.

I don't know whether there is any flood-alert warning system in place during heavy rains from the Indian side so that people downstream can be prepared. If there has been no system in place already, it is high time it was done. This should have nothing to do with border skirmishes and disputes. Droughts and floods are neither man-made nor controllable by man.
Pakistan should have system to consume this water and produce more energy, but our rulers are culprit and stupid.
Now its the time all the Indians will bang ET with hatred comments and ET(as always) will welcome them...:)

I am going to bookmark this and show it to any Pakistani, who between Feb to June will claim, as usual, that India is stealing the water(a tune which suddenly changes to "India is flooding Pakistan between June to September". Winter is break time. You cannot infiltrate during then, you see, waste of energy).
We need Dams.
We make plans to release their prisoners, and they release water to worsen our floods. What a friendly and considerate neighbor we have!

let's stop complaining about india and build some dams. It's basic stupid logic, if you need to reserve water, you need to build some stupid dams. It rain every year and we have the same problem every year. but every year we either blame India or the weather God. For God Sake, come to life and build some dams.
