New Indian high commissioner presents his credentials to President Zardari

Raghavan serves as India High Commissioner to Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The new India High Commissioner to Pakistan TCA Raghavan presented his credentials to President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday along with a number of other ambassadors.

Raghavan has replaced Sharat Shabarwal who retired last year after been given several extensions.

Raghavan assumes office at a time when the relations between the two neighbouring countries have taken a turn for the worse and continue to move downhill. Amidst accusations over ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, bilateral relations between the two have turned sour.

Officials said that he is expected to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif next week.

Other ambassadors and high commissioner-designate to present their credentials to President Zardari included those of Republic of Korea, Denmark, Kingdom of Netherlands, Mongolia, Lao, Sierra Leone, Peru and Portugal.

This took place at a ceremony in Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The respective ambassadors also discussed matters of mutual interest with the President.

The President felicitated the newly appointed officials and expressed hope that they will work to strengthen ties with Pakistan.
