Academic initiatives: Sindh to set up first law university in Pakistan

Efforts to affiliate the University of Law with foreign institutions are underway.

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan presided over a meeting on Wednesday to review the steps taken to set up Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto University of Law, the country’s first law university.

The meeting was attended by chief secretary Ejaz Chaudhary, principal secretary Muhammad Hussain Syed, vice-chancellor Dr Qazi Khalid Ali, finance secretary Suhail Rajput and adviser for higher education Syed Wajahat Ali. It was decided at the meeting that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will provide land for the university and till that time an appropriate place would also be arranged in order to make the university start its operations. The chief secretary and authorities belonging to other departments promised to cooperate in setting up the university.



Khan stated that the law university in Sindh is an honour for the province. He directed the vice-chancellor to gain the cooperation of former judges and persons, who have expertise in the law profession, so they can be hired as faculty members. The officials said  that efforts are underway to affiliate the university with renowned foreign institutions.
