ISLAMABAD:

The President and Prime Minister sent out separate messages on the occasion of 14th August on Tuesday.

President Zardari called upon the people to resolve to make Pakistan “a truly modern, dynamic, progressive and democratic country.”

He urged the public to cast out extremist elements in society that sought to arrest the nation in their grip “through the power of the bullet instead of the ballot.”

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also felicitated Pakistanis living at home and abroad.

Nawaz said that “a new era of hope and optimism has dawned upon the country with the inception of a democratic government.”

“It is our utmost effort to eliminate hunger, unemployment and inflation so that there is prosperity in the country and its status is further elevated,” he said in his message.
