KARACHI:

Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has pointed out alleged corruption with respect to the LNG services tender notice of August 6. In a letter addressed to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources (MoP), TIP has called the tender notice “discriminatory and collusive favoring one party.”

Referring to the August 6 tender by Inter Sate Gas System Ltd (ISGS), TIP has argued that it was collusion to award the contract to an ‘indentified party’, namely EVTL.

The contract period is ten years, as per the tender, which the TIP claims is an unreasonable time for any build, operate and transfer (BOT) projects. Generally BOT projects are awarded for a length of 30 years, which is a viable time for the investors to build and hand over the project.

TIP has urged the MoP Minister to launch an investigation into the delay caused by “vested interests in the last five years.”
