MULTAN:

Two people had their faces mutilated on Monday in Dera Ghazi Khan and Khanewal. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of both incidents.

Ayesha Bibi* said she was kidnapped by Rana Israr, a landlord in Khanewal. She said he assaulted her and when she shouted for help, he cut off her nose with a sickle.

He fled when people gathered at the scene.

Kuhna SHO Abbas Sipra said the Multan RPO had been directed to arrest Israr and present a report in 12 hours. Doctors at Khanewal district headquarters hospital said Asma was “out of danger”.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, the nose of a 22-year-old man was at panchayat’s behest.

Muhammad Akram, resident of Sakhi Sarwar, was owed Rs175,000 by Muhammad Altaf and Imam Baksh, who claimed that all their belongings had been swept away in the floods and accused Akram of harassing them.

A panchayat was called and Akram was found guilty of harassing the poor. As punishment, his nose was cut off. Doctors said he needed at least three surgeries.
