Nawaz called on his Interior Minister on Thursday to discuss the recent series terror-related incidents across the country.
The premier lamented the loss of lives, and condemned the terrorist attacks while commending the courage of law enforcement agencies.
Expressing his resolve in the fight against militants, Nawaz directed Nisar to present the final draft of the counter terrorism strategy by August 13, revising its earlier stated date of August 30.
The Interior Minister was also asked to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and martyred.
Earlier in the day, a suicide blast during funeral prayers of SHO City Mohibullah at the Police Lines mosque claimed over 30 lives, including that of DIG Fayyaz Sumbal. Nawaz eulogised Sumbal and the other officers who had lost their lives in the blast. He vowed that their blood would not go in vain.
Correction: The government release had initially indicated August 30 as the deadline. The release was later revised to say the deadline was August 13.

I fully endorse Siddique Malik's recommendations from US on the matter. However, I would like to add necessary legislation must also be made to ensure speedy trial and award of maximum punishment to those committing and those abetting, in one way or the other, in this heinous crime of killing people. Needless to say that there is no rocket science involved in determining what needs to be done.
There needs to be another legislation against those politicians / other people who have been protecting the perpetrators of terror actions. All political / other parties / organizations having armed wings are to be banned and taken to task as per the law of the land without exception. But the big question remains does the Mian Sahib has the resolve to do it or it will be another political rhetoric that we have been tired of listening. In all probability it seems to be another political gimmick without will. Actions of the government must SPEAK LOUDER THAN THE WORDS.
I am convinced that the state has enough power to do it provided our leaders have the required resolve. Funding and provision of weapons / communication systems to these terrorist organisations from local / foreign elements / governments must be choked as the first step.
These gruesome killers are destroying the very fabric of our society and needs to ELIMINATED before irreparable damage is done to our beloved country.
Long live Pakistan and may Allah reward those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and those who have been target of these gruesome killings.
Its Policy guys.. it takes time
Dawn reports the deadline as Aug 13th, not the 30th!.
Mian Sahib might think about doing something if these terrorists start to target his party members, but that never happens so I really doubt we will accomplish anything.
Why would one want to waste time on designing a policy? Allow me to present it right now: Investigate every single episode of terror attack quickly and with diligence. Arrest the culprits and try them with full energy. Improve weak laws under which terrorists are being released by courts. Seek maximum punishment allowed under the law for those who are found guilty. De-politicize the judiciary. For the long term, fix the madrassas and mosques that brain-wash the people and glorify death and terror. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
And then the draft will rake another 3 months or so to to the final recommendations, and may be another year to get ready for implementation.and so on.By that time TTP will be firmly entrenched in Islamabad.
This guy is in no hurry. So many more people would have died by 30th August. What was the need to go to umra at this crucial time?
The Counter Terrorism Policy must include input from leading lawyers and Judiciary so that terrorists are not released by the courts for lack of evidence.
What's the current terror policy?
LOL......Looks like after 30 Aug either SUN will rise from the west or pakistan may ban SUN rise from the east.lets see 22 days more to go......................
31 Aug 2013? Though there is no hurry, if you have another umra or hajj or foreign visit to do then the policy can surely wait.
Mian Sahib, August 30th is too far, you don't have 30 minutes. You need to take action now. Declare war against terrorists and order armed forces to finish the job in one week. If Generals don't obey your orders, dismiss them all and give command to junior officers.
