The measures are being taken after the DI Khan jailbreak where nearly 250 prisoners escaped.

The Home and Tribal Affairs department on Monday asked for thorough examination before inter-provincial transfers of convicted prisoners, said an official notification.

In light of reports obtained from inspector general of police (prisons) in Khyber-Pakhutunkhwa, the provincial government has adopted a policy to restrict the transfer of prisoners from other provinces except in cases where prisoners have been summoned for pending cases in K-P courts. Jails in the province are also overcrowded, adding to security risks.

Keeping this in view, cases pertaining to inter-provincial transfers would be duly considered and processed once the situation in the prisons of K-P improves. The measures are being taken after the DI Khan jailbreak where nearly 250 prisoners escaped.
