High Courts: Judicial body to consider 15 names for additional judges

Nine judges will be appointed for Sindh and three each for Balochistan and Islamabad high courts.

ISLAMABAD:

A meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan will be held today on Saturday to consider 15 names for appointment as additional judges for superior courts.

According to Judicial Commission sources names of ten lawyers and five district and sessions judges will be considered for three high courts.

Nine judges will be appointed for Sindh High Court (SHC) and three each for Balochistan High Court (BHC) and Islamabad High Court (IHC), sources said.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who is also chairman of the Judicial Commission, will preside over the meeting.



Three senior most judges of the Supreme Court, chief justices of the relevant high courts, members nominated by the Pakistan Bar Council and Balochistan Bar Council, Attorney General for Pakistan Muneer A Malik and other members will participate in the meeting.

SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam has recommended the names of five district and sessions judges including Shaukat Ali Memon, Ashraf Jehan, Shahnwaz Tariq, Aamir Faisal and Abdul Malik Gaddi for appointment as additional judge, sources said.

Justice Alam has proposed names of four advocates, Nazar Akbar, Muhammad Muneer Ghaffar, Zafar Ahmed Rajput and Ijaz Ahmed Sheikh for additional judges for SHC, sources said.

IHC Chief Justice Anwar Kasi has recommended Haroonur Rashid, who is also president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Anees Jillani and Raja Ishtiaq for the appointment as additional judges for IHC.

BHC Chief Justice Qazi Faez Essa has proposed names of advocates Shakeel Baloch, who is right now Advocate General of Balochistan, Kamran Mullan Kehl and Ijaz Swati for the appointment as additional judges for BHC, sources said.
