A meeting of the National Judicial Commission will be held today [Saturday] in Islamabad to consider the cares for the appointments of judges to the Sindh High Court, The Express Tribune learnt on Friday.
Sources said that the names of nine nominees - five district and sessions judges and four lawyers - have been forwarded to the commission for their elevation to high court.
Among the nominees are the district and sessions judges Shaukat Ali Memon, Ashraf Jahan, Abdul Malik Gaddi, Amir Faisal, Shah Nawaz Tariq and lawyers Nazar Akbar, Junaid Ghaffar, Zafar A Rajput and Ejaz Ahmed Sheikh. Currently, there are 24 judges working at SHC against a sanctioned strength of 40. In May, the commission had recommended a one-year extension in the service of SHC’s six additional judges to meet the shortage.
