India’s ruling Congress party approved a resolution on Tuesday to create a new state in the southeast amid fears the decision could spark violence in the region which includes IT hub Hyderabad.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders agreed to grant longstanding demands for the state of Telangana to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh state.
“A resolution was passed in the meeting where it was resolved to request the central government to take steps to form a separate state of Telangana,” Congress spokesman Ajay Maken said.
The planned state, which would be India’s 29th, would be created out of an impoverished, drought-prone mainly tribal belt that supporters say has been neglected by successive Andhra Pradesh governments.

This was not done for the betterment of the public and/or development of the region. This was done with an eye on the upcoming elections. Congress knows how and when to play with people's emotions for political gains. BJP might be wrongly hated in Pakistan for being "anti-Muslims", however it was BJP which first started peace talks with Pakistan after a long gap. It was also BJP which supported APJ Abdul Kalam for President of India and also the party which brought India back on progressive track of internal development. Then Congress came and over 10 years destroyed everything. And ofcourse, all those multi-crore corruptions by Congressmen... Congress is to India what PML-N and PPP are to Pakistan - they don't care about the people, they only care about the public's money, so they can fill their own bank accounts. And they all know how to play with people's emotions perfectly.
