Widening Project: Commuters angered by slow pace of work

The total cost of the project is said to be Rs4.8 billion and was meant to widen the highway to five lanes.

The delay in the widening of Kashmir Highway from Zero Point Interchange to Islamabad chowk is causing massive traffic jams on the busy road.     

“All traffic coming from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway and Peshawar via GT Road has been diverted to Kashmir Highway due to the construction of the Chur Chowk flyover, causing traffic jams, especially in the evenings,” said a motorist from Sector G-14.

People from Taxila, Fateh Jang, Tarnol, Chungi No 26 and several under-developed sectors of the capital using this road to reach their offices have demanded that the authorities speed up work on widening the highway.

The Rs4.8 billion project was started in February 2012 and was meant to widen the highway to five lanes from the existing two.
